The Best North Carolina in Winston Salem

Winston-Salem wineries

The title is a little misleading because I am not aware of any wineries located within the city limits of Winston-Salem North Carolina. But that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of great wineries located very close to the city.

Actually, if you want to experience North Carolina wines at their best then Winston Salem or the surrounding area is where you want to be in the state.

To the east of the city is the wine region named the Yadkin Valley. This is a beautiful area of the state. Which falls between the city to the east and to the west are the beautiful Blue ridge mountains. This region is recognized as the first official wine producing region in the state of North Carolina.

In this valley you will find many wineries, I'm not sure of the exact number but there has to be around 40 different wineries. And what's really great about the Yadkin Valley is all 40 or so wineries are located in very closed proximity. This makes it very to visit more than one and to be exposed to a variety of great wines.

My favorite in this NC valley is name RayLen vineyards. This is a beautiful environment with great wines and food.

But there are also four very good wineries to the south of Winston-Salem. These are located a short 20 mile drive to the city of Lexington NC.

In Lexington your will find Childress Winery, Weathervane, Native Vines and Junius Lindsay Vineyard.

Childress winery is a very upscale establishment with a great restaurant inside. Native Vines is the first winery in the United States owned by Native Americans, a very good cultural experience. Junius Lindsay Vineyard has very beautiful manicured vineyards a great setting to enjoy a glass of wine.

But my favorite in one in Lexington is Weather vane Winery. Great wine and friendly people that's what its all about to me.

Local Art in Ocean Isle Beach

Winery Art in Ocean Isle Beach
Local Art at a winery

Are you looking for local art. Its always amazes me the high quality of art you can find at the local level.

Ocean Isle Beach NC is a great place to live and vacation. Lots of great restaurants  attractions and beaches are located in the area. But if you are craving a new favorite bottle of wine there's also a great little winery located in the area named Silver Coast Winery.

The wines are great here, many award winning, I believe they have over 50 wines that have won awards at the prestigious Fingers Lake International wine competition in New York. So without, if you are in the Ocean Isle Beach area of NC this is the winery you should visit to find your next new favorite bottle of wine.

But I'm not necessarily writing this here to explain to you how great the wines are here. What I really want to let you know is my experience at Silver Coast Winery last fall. I had originally walked inside this establishment only to pick up the very best bottle of white wine. But I was soon surrounded by an awesome art display.

And I soon realized Silver Coast Winery is not just a winery in Ocean Isle Beach but it also serves as an art gallery. I was very impressed by the level of art work that was on display. I ended up staying for nearly two hours looking at the art and speaking with the artists who were present. I did end up actually buying a piece of art work to take home with me also.

The art I bought was by an artist name Ricky Evans. This guy loves history and the seas so many of his art works are centered around these topics. Ricky Evans has a fantastic collections of lighthouse artwork. Very pleases with the painting I took home with me.
